Yesterday was my fourth lesson I’ve evr had and my teacher is expecting me to learn the whole of Little Bach Prelude. I’m only 10 and I feel I’m being pushed. My piano teacher is a concert pianist and he says hes never seen anything like me before and that I can do everything he say very well. I couldnt read music a month ago and now im at this stage already, Help!
Don’t worry about how quickly you’re going. The only thing that should make you worry is if you seriously cannot do something your tutor has asked of you, even with much practice. The fact your tutor is a concert pianist shows just how much they know about playing the instrument – believe it or not, it doesn’t take long to pick up the piano if you have the talent, and clearly you do.
As long as you can cope with what is being asked of you, don’t worry about it! On the other hand, don’t be afraid to say you weren’t able to do something which was asked of you, you’re only human. Your teacher will totally understand that even someone as talented as you needs a little time. Take is as a blessing that you have the talent, most people don’t.
