I have played the alto sax for about 8 years now and I’m very good, if I do say so myself: I know my scales and practice my Ferling etudes often. I would love to learn the piano but I don’t have time to get private lessons or take a class. I actually took just one semester like a year ago and I was doing great. Knowing this, you piano virtuosos, do you think that I can teach myself through lesson books? I’m not looking to become a professional pianist of course, just proficient enough.
hmm, piano is the mother instrument of ALL instruments. and it actually took me two years to learn piano but during those two years, i learned to play lots of songs and i enjoy it. I guess iit depends on each person. If you want to learn fast, then it takes many practices, but if you want to take it slow or give it some time, then you can practice at least 30 minutes a day. I actually practice at least two hours per day..(yea it’s hard at first, but you’ll get used to it.) However, i recommend you to hire a piano tutor so that you can learn hundreds of piano terms better than teaching it yourself, but you can also teach yourself if you want to (if you’re saving money). It takes lots of patience (yea, i almost ripped my piano pieces but i decided not to) but you’ll make it through. Good luck!!
