I have a macbook and would like to record my piano playing on it. I’m learning and thought it would be a good way to track my progress (assuming I make some!) I have worked out how to record it as a ‘jingle’ in garage band but this seems a bit laborious. Is there a simpler way to record sound – some kind of simple dictaphone style bit of software.
I don’t want to edit it or do anything fancy with it. Any suggestions gratefully received!

The app you want is Audacity. It is freeware from
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
in Preferences | I/O set it to Internal Microphone. I find it very simple to use, and it is actually a very capable bit of editing software when you want it.
