How hard to self-teach yourself to play the Piano?

Okay so i was thinking of a piano for my birthday coming up…im 15 and i really wish i could play! i think the piano(when played right of course) is so soothing! i really want to learn how to play! but if i do get a piano there is no way i could afford lessons…so i was wondering how hard it was to self-teach urself(keep in mind ive never played)

Well, I have been taking piano lessons since I was 6 years old so I don't really know how hard it would be to teach yourself everything. I guess it would depend on what you already know about it.

Do you know how to read music? If you do not then I would strongly suggest taking some music classes just for that reason alone, though it isn't necessary but helpful to know. The piano really isn't that hard to learn to play, especially if you are just wanting to dabble a bit with it & learn enough just to play certain songs and pieces. It also matters just how determined you are to learn & how much you are willing to practice each day (yes, every day practice is the best).

Another question I would ask is do you have experience with any other instrument or is the piano your first one?

But, Hey… If you are really determined and serious about learning I would suggest buying some tutorial books, movies, or just anything to help you get started. As suggested before me you might want to even try searching youtube for some helpful videos.

Taking classes definitely would help you out even if it was just a few lessons. I would highly suggest checking around your area for some cheap classes or something & at least give them a chance.

Best of luck!
