I have no clue about pianos and keyboards and stuff… but I want my sister to learn how to play piano. I heard that keyboards aren’t very good to learn on because it’s a different feel… we have a digital piano. Is a digital piano the same as a keyboard? Can my sister learn "legit" piano on a digital piano? I’m sorry my question is very vague… If you don’t understand it then please answer with something i should be aware of when I get my sister involved with music.
Every piano feels different. There are some digital pianos that are closer in feel to a real piano than others – there are 88 keys (or nearly 88) and the keys have similar resistance. Electronic keyboards are fine for a beginner, as far as learning the names of the notes and other fundamentals, but there are nowhere near 88 keys, and they feel nothing like a real piano.
The main question is whether your digital piano has keys that are touch-sensitive – in other words, is it possible to play at a different volume depending on how hard you hit the keys? That will be crucial for learning solos.
