I’ve taken piano lessons on and off, age 7 and age 13; I never had the passion and drive to learn back then. But ever since I quit, I learned how to play piano by ear and can pick up chords and keys of songs quickly. I still can’t read notes. I’m 16 now and I want to learn how to play piano formally by reading notes.
Is it difficult for me to learn how to read notes now that i’m older and that I play by ear?
Nope. Playing by ear will make playing and reading much easier. I picked up piano as a music theory student and already being able to hear chords helped a lot. It’ll be hard to recognize chords at first but once you get used to seeing them notated you’ll enjoy playing much more. Don’t give up!
