Learn Piano Songs
Learning piano is one of those (often) aspirational things that we tend to give up sometimes before we even start; thinking that we must do the traditional thing and learn piano sheet music first, then move on to the actual melody.
Theory, then practical.
But really, there is another way – that is, we can learn the melody first, then move on to the rest, enjoying ourselves even more along our musical journey.
It’s a fact that a great many self-taught piano players learn this very way, getting to grips with enjoyable melodies first. This approach can significantly reduce the learning curve. In almost no time you can play relatively comfortably, checking out your favourite style of tune!
Of course, don’t take this to say that you can learn piano overnight! It still will take some time and dedication, remember your mind has to grasp new ideas in sound and method. Still the journey becomes a lot less arduous. You could be skippin’ the keys on a jazz riff or a tenderly rendering a blues vibe in quick time!
One of the many great positives of learning piano is the ability to make your own music, sometimes on the fly! It feels great to surprise family and friends, and maybe watch their expressions change from surprise to enjoyment (maybe even delight!) at your efforts.
Another is that you can challenge and improve yourself by playing with others, maybe in a jam session, with each player improvising and doing their own thing. Some surprising results can come out of it – good and sometimes not so good! But always, always you learn something. As long as you are striving, your efforts will be appreciated.
Small Open Mike nights are pretty good after you are comfortable with your playing ; we all are amateurs in this environment.
For me, no other instrument comes close to matching the piano for range(maybe the Sax will give it a run for it’s money, though). Obviously I’m biased, but I’m OK with that.
Piano Rocks!
