I'm looking for an adult piano method. I've done a lot of research and the most favored methods seem to be Faber and Fabers' Adult Piano Adventures and Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, but some educators reviews advise against these methods because they supposedly focus too much on position playing. They claim many students who take these courses end up not being able to read music NOT written in Five Finger Position. Are their claims true? Do these methods cause such severe hindrances, and if they do, what is the best adult piano method available?
i believe that they are true..
my mother tried the Alfred one..
and she has so many problems with figuring out where to put her hands if it is not in the basic position..
and just kind of plays from how she knows the song..
she doesnt seem to beable to play a given note if she doesnt start from like the beginning of the piece..
i dont know any methods.. but there probably are the better methods available..
you could always get a teacher.. my piano teacher teaches adults.. and they do really well.. she was focused on adult, child teaching, and position..
