One lesson a week is great, but only if you have a piano you can practice on in the meantime. I took lessons for 8 years and had one lesson a week. However I had to practice an hour a day in between.

And yes many teachers teach in their home with their piano. That's what mine did and what my mom (who is a piano teacher) does.

If you don't have your own piano to practice on, I'd suggest talking to the music department of your school or a local church to see if you can arrange a time to come in and practice.
References :
One lesson a week is fine for a while when you first start. I played the piano for about 10 years when I was younger. I stopped during high school. Throughout that time I only saw my instructor once a week - and for the first little while I didn't really practice much at home. We eventually got a keyboard for me to practice on, and then after a few years when I got better we got an upright piano but you should be fine for now with one lesson a week.

To the dumbass that came in here and get everybody a thumbs down - why don't you post your own response? You obviously disagree, so let us know what you think.
References :
Once a week will be good for the basics, but practice makes perfect. One lesson a week without practice won't be enough to really improve.

You might want to see if you can a cheaper electronic keyboard to practice on your own time. Your teacher should be able to suggest models and features that are essential (weighted keys would be nice, but probably expensive - velocity sensors without weighted keys are probably sufficient for practice. Full sized keys are imperative though if the experience is to be helpful.) Or, see if there's a piano you can practice on at school or in a community centre or church or something.

And yes, many piano teachers invite you into their home or studio to teach on their own piano.
References :
Hey there,

Yeah, there are plenty of teachers who will let you come to their house and learn on their piano. Also, one day a week is perfectly acceptable, you will be suprised at how quickly you learn. Good luck and enjoy!
