I’m taking music lessons for the summer (13 yr old) and I don’t know which to pick!
I have an electric guitar with an amp at home, and I also have a huge piano at home which no one plays.
My fingers are relatively thin/long and my mom tells me that it’s better for the piano. But my friends are telling me that the guitar is better.
I wanna take both, but it’s probably like gonna be 5000 dollars, so obviously, I can’t!
I want to take piano….. mainly because it seems to sound nicer and doesn’t require you to strain your fingers.
I have somewhat good memory (im not flattering my self! lol), so it’s like 50/50 for both. I tested out both instruments before and I memorized all the main chords and some sharps and flats for the the chords on the guitar, and I memorized the 12 notes on the piano.
They’re both like equal to me!!
But the scales for both instruments are challenging, but gratifying to learn, so wtf?!?! It’s like, damn… I’m so stuck!
Please help! And give your opinions (don’t say piano is boring or guitar is cool or anything like that).
I listen to rock mainly, and would definitely like to rock out to songs, but piano is awesome too. I mean, wouldn’t it be cool to just play some Mozart or Bach effortlessly?
So yeah. Please help!!!!
Micah, you really convinced me to choose piano! But I don’t really know yet, I want to ask someone who plays both instruments and get their real opinions and reasons and such. It’s such a hard decision. I’m planning to stick with just that instrument this time, instead of just flying from one to another… (like I did with drums and flute…)
And I don’t mean to say playing Mozart and Bach effortlessly, I’m just admiring how other people get so good at it, it seems like they play it effortlessly. : )
And I’m aware that both instruments will give you a bit of pain in your hands (no pain, no gain!). I just think that the piano will be less painful than calluses from the guitar.

BY THE WAY, I have a lot of piano sheet music (like books and stacks) of them at home because my cousin has been playing it for 11 years.
I can play really simple tunes, like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and other beginners stuff.
maybe you could do both. like i heard pianos have strings in them. so hook the strings up to your guitar. then when you strum the string it plays the piano. you could call it the guitar piano. i would do this myself but as i have no arms it is very difficult to strum the guitar strings. if i had enough money i would buy a replacement set of arms, but i think the only viable way to get money is through guitar piano. you can see the conundrum, of course.
