Tips, Tricks & Piano Playin' Resources

Question for all Piano Lesson Instructors?

How much do you charge your students for lessons and what is your method of charging them? i.e. monthly, weekly, per lesson, or bi-weekly? The reason i am asking is because i am going to start teaching students very soon, and i would like your opinions. I'm an experienced pianist with 11 years of experience.

HI, Kimberly. I have been teaching piano for the past 19 years. I currently have 73 piano students, 29 of whom are taught by my assistant teacher.
The amount you charge totally depends on the area in which you live. Here in my area the going rate for en experienced teacher is between $20-27 per 30 min lesson. I would suggest checking around to see what other teachers are charging.
Most piano teachers charge by the month, with payment duet at the first lesson of the month. (Basically the parent is paying for the month in advance.) You do not want to accept weekly payment, as this often results in no shows. The parents in my studio pay by the quarter (which is 9 weeks in advance.) I would suggest starting with monthly payment first and in a few years switching over the quarterly.
I hope this helped. Post more questions on Yahoo! Answers. I would love to assist you further.
