Right now, I'm on a piano course and I do not have much interest in it. My fren may be stopping next month and i don't wan to learn alone too. i've just discontinued my last course last november and continued with the course i'm on right now. i'm losing interest on my piano right now and don know whether to stop or not. i have a piano at home and my sister (who is Really good in her music) stopped her piano lesson last three months. So i was wondering , If i stop mine, wouldn't the piano be a waste? And if i continue, wouldn't i be wasting my time?
Here is my opinion:
Take a small break from piano, like for just the summer, then start again in fall.
I've been having lessons for almost eight years, (2nd grade – 9th) and my dad taught me some before there, so when I started I could already read notes somewhat well. When I was in fifth grade I absolutly D piano. I wanted to break the stupid thing in half. So I quit. I told myself that I woul never touch it again. Within a month I was teaching myself, and had a huge desire to learn. I started lessons again, and by the time I was 13 I could already play (memorized) The entire first movement of Moonlight Sonata (not the kids version, the REAL version) and improving. Then I got bored with it again, and stopped. Then I started teaching myself again, went back to lessons, and in under three monthes I memorized Cristofori's Dream by David Lanz.
I thought that I was done……….. Then I started composing.
I now have five songs of my own, at the age of 14, and I would have none if I had stopped piano when I did.
I'm thinking that you should just take a small break, then see what happens. If you find you still don't like it after a bit, then find something else to do.
If you do stop, then no, it wouldn't be a waste. You can restart lessons at anytime of your life, and it will all flow back to you.
If you keep going, NO. It will NOT be a waste of time. Look at all I've done, when I thought it would be a waste. It hasn't. You will be forever greatful if you keep going.
Well, I'm sorry I've said so much, but I think you should just keep at it, but take breaks.
