i am impressed by those you tube video showing young Asian children as young as age of 5 could play beautiful classical music. Just wonder what kind of training they have to go through and what kind of studies or finger exercise they need to practise.
They have to be able to recognize most of the notes, usually the octave from middle c to c. They have to be able to play scales (*arpeggios), read notes, and if the child's exceptional, the basics of music theory. Music exercises are necessary in teaching a child. To get my wrists up, my piano teacher used to use her hand, pretending it was a bunny, over my wrist. She said, "The bunny has to be nice and fat to be happy. You'll make the bunny sad if you don't feed him enough." This usually works better for younger children. Another one is that your fingers have to be round, like you're holding a tomato. If you have flat hands, you'll squish the tomato. I think that any child, however, can play if they put their mind to it. I was two years old when I started playing. Take it from a guy who has experience. (sources)
