Hi, I’m a 21 year old student currently in my last year of psychology at Manchester Uni.
i have always been interested in dentistry, but lost my way abit during my sixth form years, ending up recieving A,B and C in psychology, biology and maths respectively, (and a B in AS level chemistry).
I now really wish I’d taken another year and concentrated on getting better A-levels, but at the time i decided taking psychology would be the best option!
i was just wondering, what would i have to do to even be considered for dentistry (as a now mature student?)
basically i have all A grades GCSE’s, A/B/C a-levels, hopefully a 2:1 degree in psychology in a few months.
how could I re-take A-levels if i needed to? and does it cost money now I’m 21?
In terms of manual dexerity i play violin and piano to a good level, i have no experience in the field (but would be willing to get some before applying!)
Thank you!
I’m in my 3rd year of dentistry at Bristol uni now. I checked the website and applicants are expected to have:
‘AAB, to include A grades in both Chemistry and one other lab-based science (see AS-level requirements). Graduates should offer a minimum of BBB at A-level plus 2:1 or above in a science subject’(1)
Is psychology a science subject? If so you meet that criteria, however because you don’t have A-level chemistry you might find you have to do this A-level before being considered. On the other hand you could apply for the 6 year course and that is open to people with non-science subjects at A-level. I think possibly the best advice I can give you is to search the web and find the contacts of admissions tutors and get in touch, and ask them directly.
On my course there are mature students, but all of them did a science based degree, ie Medicine, Physiology, Anatomy, Molecular Biology that kind of thing… One girl did a Engineering degree which is non-science but she had to do the pre-dental year.
The tuition is
