I want to teach my 6 year old (I've played piano for 30 years so she sees me playing all the time and knows quite a few things but I can't decide which method or series of methods to use.
Any recommendations?
Here's a list of methods I found in my research, I'm sure there are more:
Alfred series
Bastien series
Faber & Faber
Noona methods
Glover methods
Teaching Little Fingers to Play series
Michael Aaron Piano course
Suzuki methods
I can read music notespellers
Hal Leonard methods
The Music Tree (Frances Clark Library)
Usborne
Choose out a few and give them a try. I'd steer clear of Suzuki and Michael Aaron, but that's just a personal preference. I learned with Alfred and Hal Leonard. Really its not the method book that teaches your daughter, but you. so it won't make a huge difference what you use.
For exersizes after she's learned the basics though, try ANIMAL MAGIC. Its cute and will work…uh, magic. really.
